Native, warm-season, perennial, grass with stolons to 2 m long and stout, trailing stems that root at the nodes. Nodes are hairless and leaves are 6-12 mm wide. Flowerheads are digitate and have 2-3 erect, thick, rigid branches (6-12 cm long) that are pressed together until mature and often emerge above the leaf sheath rather late. Spikelets are paired (both alike, but one sessile and the other stalked), awned and 2 flowered (only upper floret is fertile). Flowers from summer to winter. Found on coastal sand dunes and on rocky headlands where sand has accumulated. Native biodiversity. A useful sand binding grass. No information is available on its quality or management.
