English: Forest ride Slufters inclosure New Forest Hampshire. Strong growth of bracken (Pteridium aquilinum) here. Bracken is the commonest fern in Britain, flourishing on light acid soils in woodland, heaths, hills and moors. It can damage archaeological sites since the rhizomes break the actual stone of some sites. The Forestry Commission is conducting trials to cut and compost this vigorous plant. |
