Las Cruces, New Mexico - June 24, 1941

" As it began to rain, we drove hrough a pass in the Organ Mountains and when we came to the bottom, there was Las Cruces. We looked over all the motor courts and finally went back to the Dona Ana, where we had stayed two years ago," Dad typed in his diary

"Supper downtown at the Club Cafe, run by Cecil and Louise Holmes who used to be in Hollywood."


I was 17 that year and this was the last long trip with my family. War was declared on December 8th and I was in the Army by January 1943 until January 1946. In 1941, Dad traded a 1938 Ford coupe and a 1939 Ford tudor for two 1941 Fords that served well through the war years. I remember when he made the deal to pay $800 for the two new cars. The Worthington, Ohio Ford dealer knocked off $50 for buying two cars in one deal.
