Ang Kiampao sakop sa kahenera nga Taeniura sa kabanay nga Dasyatidae.[6][7] Giklaseklase sa IUCN ang espesye sa duolang mibahad.[1] Pagka karon wala pay siak nga nalista ubos niini niya.[6]
